Newton-Conover City Schools has a proud tradition of providing quality educational services tailored to the specific learning and emotional needs of our diverse student population.
At the N-CCS Board of Education Meeting held on Monday, January 23, 2023, the Board approved the school calendar for the 2023-24 school year (see 23-24 School Calendar).
Calendar features for the 2023-2024 school year include:
165 days of instruction (to meet the standard of 1025 instructional hours)
77 days in the fall semester; 88 days in the spring semester
The start date for staff will be Monday, August 14, 2023 (optional workday); the first required workday for 10-month staff will be Friday, August 18, 2023 (Opening Convocation)
The student start date had to be on the Monday closest to August 26 which is August 28, 2023
The last day of school for students is Friday, May 24, 2023
The last working day for staff will be Friday, June 7, 2023
Up to 5 remote learning days may be used in the event of inclement weather (ongoing legislation pending)
With these considerations, our board adopted the above-linked calendar. N-CCS works to meet the requirements of the 1,025 hours which makes our school calendar conducive to high school first semester exams before Christmas Break, and the last day of the school year for students occurring before Memorial Day weekend.
The Board of Education reserves the right to make revisions to this calendar based on legislative changes and changing needs of the school district. In the event this occurs, communication will occur to all district and community stakeholders accordingly.
